In order for it to be humiliating to the son, others have to know that mom is a slut. But generally, I prefer reading stuff where the mom is more or less normal not a brazen slut for everyone.
The way I see it, if she is a super-slut (and always has been) then the son should more or less have gotten used to it. But if she was more or less innocent, it'd be crushing for the son to see her come off her pedestal.
