"I know, Mom, but it's just so hard to concentrate when there are so many other things going on," he explained.
Jane shook her head, her disappointment evident. "Well, I'm afraid that I'll have to cancel the trip. There's no way that I can let you go if your grades are slipping like this."
Jack looked up at her in shock, his eyes wide. "But, Mom, please! I promise that I'll do better," he pleaded.
Jane's expression hardened. "I'm sorry, Jack, but I have to be firm on this. Good grades are important, and you need to focus on them if you want to have any chance at a good future."

"But please, mom. My friends were so looking forward to this. We've been planning for months!"
Jane sighed, her resolve wavering for a moment before she steeled herself and shook her head again.
"I'm sorry, Jack, but my decision is final. But as to your friends, as long as they get permission from their parents, I will still take them"
